Dr. Smith is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Experienced in Human Resource and Development focused in the area of Behavior Analysis and Modification. Holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Masters and doctorate in human resource and development from University of Maryland at College Park. Retired, Command Chief Master Sergeant, United States Air Force of 35 years and a Vietnam Veteran. Retired engineer from AT&T Telecommunications Company of 30 years. Adjunct professor in the school of social sciences for Community Colleges of North Carolina, chairman of the Business and Education Committee for the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Thelma E. Black - MTSS Coordinator

Thelma is a native of Houston, Texas and a veteran of more than 18 years with the United States Air Force. She currently serves as Intervention Specialist/Multi-Tiered System of Support Coordinator. She has been married for 31 years; and is the proud parent of three girls, two boys and three grandchildren.
Thelma has been a North Carolina educator for thirteen years. Prior to serving at Dillard Academy in April 2014, she served the public school systems teaching of Wayne County and Mecklenburg County teaching first grade. She also served at Goldsboro’s Carter Christian/Summit Academy for three years teaching grades Kindergarten and 4-8th grade Science and Social Studies.
Thelma’s education includes a BS in Business Administration, and MAEd in K-6 Curriculum and Instruction. She holds a NC Teacher Licensure II Certification. Her professional goal is to continue improving her pedagogy of teaching while supporting teachers and the school-based MTSS team in collecting and analyzing data to recommend academic/behavioral interventions to help “at risk” students improve their learning capacity in order to meet NC Academic Learning Standards. Her hobbies are sewing, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

I am Maxine Carr. I hail from Columbia, S.C. I have three grown children, Terrance, Lincoln, and Atleassia. I have been teaching for about 20 years. My area of concentration is Special Education. I have a passion for Math, Sports (Running, Washington Redskins, and NC State), and Reading. I am a graduate of Fayetteville State University, GO BRONCOs! My favorite color is RED. I can never get enough of pasta and seafood. I enjoy my FAMILY and spending time alone. I served in the Active Army for 11 years and 24 years in the North Carolina Army National Guards. I have been around the world but there is no place like home.
