Dr. Richard O. Knight, D.CC, M.Ed
I am Richard Knight, it is my privilege and honor to join the Dillard Academy family for the school year 2016-2017. I am looking forward to an exciting year of learning and growing with our students and working with our professional staff.
I have been an educator at the Elementary level for over a decade and have been serving in the educational field for over 14 years. I have served as Reading teacher at an Orphanage for Boys, Instructor of Education courses with the Jamaica National Youth Service (NYS), and Assistant Lecturer of Technology in Education at the International University of the Caribbean. During my teaching career I have taught all grades 1st through 8th grade. I am married to a wonderful woman, Tanisha. We have two children, Dominic, and Sofia.
I currently hold a diploma in Primary Education from the Bethlehem Moravian College, A Bachelor of Education Degree from the International University of the Caribbean, a Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington and Doctoral Degree in Christian Counseling. I hold a valid and current NC DPI License in the areas of K-6 General Education, 6-9 Mathematics Education, K-12 School Administration.
My main goal is to ensure that every student is provided the highest quality of education possible in a safe and supportive learning environment. Working together as a team with our staff and parents, I am committed to helping each student achieve their very best. Every student is valued and worthy of our best effort.
I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than eleven years with specific concentration in Elementary Education and Math Education. I am elated to bring my skills as an educational leader to Dillard Academy and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure our students’ success. I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established by Dillard Academy by building strong relationships with parents, students, and community partners. We will focus on Common Core skills, use of data to inform instruction, and providing exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities for all students.
I will also engage the participation of the PTO and other community groups. Creating and maintaining valuable partnerships with all stakeholders will be of paramount importance as we seek to strengthen the bridge between the classroom and the home. Dillard Academy will be known as a parent friendly environment where parents and staff work cooperatively for students’ success, as our axiom states, “it takes a village to raise a child”. I hope to continue and increase the tradition of parent involvement in our various school activities.
